The Common Beech is a majestic deciduous tree, often found in the woodlands surrounding Lancing. Its dense canopy creates a unique habitat for fungi and specialized insects.

Beech leaves are typically oval and have a wavy margin. In autumn, they turn a beautiful coppery-bronze color, often staying on the tree through much of the winter when the tree is young.
